Backstory: Harvey has been educated on his morals by his grandparents, whom he spends more time with than his actual biological parents, as they are more often than not acting drunken and disorderly, and he attributes most of his redeeming qualities to his grandparents, as he has decided that they are more likely to be external than inherited.
